Cataract Awareness Month

June 2025

Montreal, QC – June marks Cataract Awareness Month, a national opportunity to shed light on one of the leading causes of vision loss in Canada—and the importance of timely treatment. As noted by Dr. Natasha Dang in her recent appearance on Zoomer Radio’s Morning Zoom, cataracts are not only common but highly treatable. Yet, too many Canadians still face long wait times for access to surgery.

That’s where The Cataract Institute (TCI) steps in. At TCI, we are dedicated to improving access to safe and effective cataract surgeries through strategic partnerships with provincial health authorities. Our model focuses on delivering timely care while helping to reduce the growing surgical backlog across Canada.

“Vision shouldn’t have to wait,” says a spokesperson for TCI. “We work to ensure patients—particularly seniors and those in underserved communities—receive the life-changing care they need, without unnecessary delays.”

In addition to providing surgical services, TCI offers accessible educational resources to help patients better understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and the positive impact of cataract surgery on quality of life.

This month, TCI encourages Canadians to learn more about cataracts, speak with their healthcare provider, and join the call for improved access to timely vision care.

About The Cataract Institute

The Cataract Institute is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to enhance the healthcare landscape in Canada. By partnering with provincial health authorities, we strive to provide safe, effective, and timely eye surgeries that improve the lives of Canadians. Each year, we perform more than 75,000 publicly funded cataract surgeries, helping to reduce wait times and restore vision for those who need it most.

Beyond surgical care, we are committed to educating and empowering patients with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their health. Our goal is to help strengthen the healthcare system in Canada through collaboration, research, education, innovation, and community support.
